coming home

coming home

june 6-8, munich, germany an in-person workshop with michael

What if HOME was not a destination or a place, but rather a quality of being and a presence to the vitality living in each moment. To be at HOME in the intimacy and solitude of being alone is to openly receive and release the simplicity of each breath, to honor our wounds and celebrate our gifts. To be at HOME in the connection and communion with another is to be rooted in our own beating heart, while risking to share our heart with another. To be at HOME in the community and belonging of others is to be willing to take a stand and claim our place, while at the same time making space for the diversity and beauty of others. To be at HOME in the infinite mystery of spirit is to surrender to the teachings of faith, trust, curiosity and wonder to guide us in our every day dance of life. Through movement and pause, silence and sound, witnessing and being seen, we will dance our dreams and sing through our souls. The journey has begun, the long walk of COMING HOME.

the things we carry

the things we carry

june 20-22, linz, austria an in-person workshop with michael

sometimes we do not get a choice in what we carry; we carry wounds and worry, mysteries and mistakes, secrets and scars, grist and grief, burdens and baggage. our shoulders become heavy with should’s; i should be more… i should be a better… let’s come together to re-move and shake off the shackles of should. oftentimes, the weight of the world feels too heavy to carry alone. we will begin with our own weight, feeling the gravity of our lives and what we can discover about ourselves through movement. we will move in communion with one other, a shared dialogue which can lighten our load and open us to deeper connection. we will dance in community with all, exploring and witnessing the diverse responsibilities of being human. let’s learn to make space in our bodies to release what is no longer in service to our well-being and growth. oftentimes, the best way to carry a burden is to show it and share it.

Tribal Gathering: Let in! Let out! Let go!

Tribal Gathering: Let in! Let out! Let go!

july 11-13, olympia, washington an in-person retreat with anneli, heera, kamla, ronny and petra

how do we stay fluid, supple, and resilient as we move through life? how do we open to the new, express and stand up for the truth of our hearts, and release what no longer serves us? it is good to fill one’s days with love, joy, and compassion, and to revel in the beauty all around us. and for each of us life also includes some measure of challenge, pain, and grief. our willingness and capacity to let in, let out, and let go of all life offers determines our journey, our peace of mind, our experience on this sacred earth. conscious Dance increases that capacity by inviting and inspiring us to move with life's ever shifting beats, rhythms, and connections. Each year we call together the greater dancing tribes from the four corners of the earth. Set right in the heart of summer, this workshop features five amazing movement teachers, representing 5Rhythms, Open Floor, and Path of Azul, each with a unique offering on this year’s shared theme. Our Gathering is composed of embodied dancers from around the world and a fabulous catered celebratory dinner together. Join new friends and old for a remarkable weekend of movement and discovery.

rituals of belonging

rituals of belonging

september 19-21 , poznan, poland an in-person workshop with michael

soul motion: rites of belonging using the awakening energy of dancing through soul motion, we will move with the grace of our belonging and the struggles of our exclusion. through movement and ritual, we will explore the meaning of how and where we belong in ourselves and our lives, and the places we feel exiled from ourselves and others. we will actively step into the participation required to belong, responding to the call that stirs a deep inner longing to fall into the place we call home. we will experience the possibility of resting through our bodies and listening to the silences within; to trust and surrender as gravity repeatedly tells us “i have a place for you: it is called here.”

weaving: the art of connection

weaving: the art of connection

september 25-28 , oberlethe, germany an in-person workshop with michael & doreen tönjes

the fabric of our humanity is being stretched beyond the breaking point. the threads of our humanness have grown taut and tense as othering becomes the most fluent language spoken in the world. the current climate saturating every nation almost insists that we distrust, disparage and disrespect one another. what can we do to stitch the fibers of generosity and kindness back into the one human story? we will begin the weaving by moving our own bodies, inviting our breath to sing to any parts within us that feel forgotten or forbidden. we will create pathways for greater intimacy through the weaving of our shared values and vulnerability, richer connection to each other through the weaving of our shared shapes and stories, a deeper sense of belonging through the weaving of our shared wounds and wonder, accessibility to spirit through the weaving of our shared dances of hope and despair, loss and life, faith and doubt, grief and love.

sanctuary of self

sanctuary of self

november 21-23, vienna, austria an in-person workshop with michael

what does it feel like to be you? we can ask ourselves this question over and over again, and receive a startling range of responses. sometimes we recognize the voice as our own, and sometimes it seems foreign or alien. as we deepen our intimate connection to ourselves we find confusing polarities within, some parts that we want to embrace, and some that we want to discard. it is within this fractured state that we long to return to our true nature, and take refuge in the sanctuary of self. through the embodied practice of soul motion we initiate a sacred journey of returning to wholeness, inviting all parts of ourselves to be noticed and known. as we step into our authentic nature, we learn to deeply listen to the longings of the disparate parts of us that only want to be integrated and engage in a life of harmony. it is in the turning towards everything within us that creates a sanctuary of self, where all parts are welcome and true refuge can be found.

soul motion training part 3: the art of teaching

soul motion training part 3: the art of teaching

7.-14. September 2025 in North Germany 9.-16. November 2025 in South Germany with Doreen Tönjes, Edgar Spieker, Michael Molin Skelton, Winky Wheeler

soul motion training part 3 is the way to turn the passion for our practice into a profession and to open spaces yourself for people who want to practice soul motion. the focus of this part of the training is on the methodology and didactics of teaching in the dance space. the basic attitude of a Soul Motion teacher is less to instruct, but more to accompany and support what is already there and wants to unfold. this requires a good access to one's own intuition as well as an attentive observation of the dance space. from these two streams of information, the inner impulses and the outer perception, the soul motion teacher makes decisions for the next next step in a class, be it an exercise, a setting, verbal support or the selection of music. often "less is more", and a waiting, benevolent observation of what is happening in the room is exactly what supports the participants in their own processes best.

soul motion: foundations

soul motion: foundations

6.-10. August 2025 in Oldenburg, Germany with Doreen Tönjes 3.-7. Dezember 2025 near Oldenburg, Germany with Doreen Tönjes and Edgar Spieker

foundations are the first and most important part of any building. when something stands on good ground, it enables unimagined possibilities to build on it. It is similar with us: the clarity about where we stand as human beings opens up the inner spaces we need for our growth. the "foundations" are the first part of the soul motion training. they allow us to learn in detail the cornerstones on which our dance meditation method is built. the "foundations" are open to both experienced soul motion dancers and absolute beginners. this module is part of the soul motion teacher training and not a regular workshop.
